What you can do
There are many things that a family member or a friend can do to help you say no to peer pressure. Some things are:
- Making sure your lines of communication are always open
- Offering advice or support without passing judgement
- Picking your battles
- Knowing their friends
- Talking about their issues
- Setting healthy boundaries
- Know Yourself - If your know yourself it can be easier to decide whether you want to do something or not
- Think Ahead - If you know you're going to be going into a situation that could include peer pressure, you could plan ahead and think about what you would say if that situation comes up
- Practice Assertive Behavior - This is when you can be clear what is OK for you and speak exactly what you are feeling and thinking
- Stand Tall - Standing up to peer pressure is easier if you are confident
